For over 40 years, Groupe Harmonie has been proud to carry out its mission of supporting individuals aged 55 and up facing substance-related issues. This work grants us a tremendous privilege: the opportunity to have a significant impact on individuals’ lives by helping them achieve their goals and regain balance.
In 2024, we asked ourselves a crucial question: how can we reach even more people to strengthen our efforts in awareness and prevention? By participating in various consultations on the needs of seniors in Montreal and exchanging with our partners, we identified a growing need for sharing knowledge on substance-related issues among individuals aged 55 and up, as well as a need to intensify screening efforts.
It is with this in mind that Groupe Harmonie designed and launched an innovative program of awareness and prevention workshops. By adopting a proactive “outreach” approach, we have successfully reached a larger number of individuals. In just a few months, 285 people have benefited from our workshops. We received valuable financial support from Mission Inclusion to meet the growing demand for this program.
This has allowed us to offer more workshops within community organizations, retirement homes, and other suitable places where individuals aged 55 and up who may have substance-related issues can be reached. These workshops cover general topics, such as the link between substance-related issues and aging. During these sessions, our facilitators encourage participation through quizzes, clinical vignettes, open-ended and multiple-choice questions, creating a dynamic and engaging space for exchange.
These 1.5-hour workshops, led by two passionate facilitators, conclude with a period of one-on-one meetings, allowing participants to express their needs in complete confidentiality. Participation in these workshops is open to all, with no obligation for individual follow-up. However, those who wish can sign up for individual follow-up, allowing them to continue their support with one of our qualified facilitators.
We are building a supportive environment for our seniors, where everyone can find a listening ear, support, and hope.
